Square Alboni
Location and size: Renovation, decoration and furnishing of a 14 meter square (one room!) rental apartment, Paris XVI
Difficulties overcome: Creation of a functional studio apartment that works like a living room during the day, and is a comfortable bedroom at night.
Testimonial: Antonia’s creativity, know-how and experience meant that she was able to take the technical constraints into account while highlighting the best features of the apartment.
Combined with her network of artisans and knowledge of the best materials, she was able to create a beautiful apartment for us!
I highly recommend Antonia’s talents so that you too can be fully satisfied with the transformation of your apartment, just as we are.

Beautiful view from the studio's balcony of an Art Deco building opposite and the communal garden. The studio apartment's best feature.

Before: The space is bright with a lovely big window. On the other hand, the carpet was in bad condition and there was some water damage to the left of the window.

Before: The existing storage blocked the view and used up some of the width of the room which made it feel even smaller.

After: I redesigned the studio to make the most of its best feature, that view! So the line of storage to the left has gone and the space is left as open and unencumbered as possible. The carpet was replaced with parquet. (A sofa bed was installed to the right after this photo was taken).

After: A small, functional kitchen was installed. In order to gain as much storage space as possible, as discretely as possible, built-in cupboards were installed. (The cupboard doors above the entry door are asymmetrical to avoid the right hand door banging into the kitchen cupboard!).

After: A fold down table/desk means that it can be folded away to create space when not in use. The drawers under the window are for storage, and the step out to the balcony hides some pipes. I used the same materials and colour palette throughout the space to make it feel bigger (as the eye is not distracted by other colours).

After: We installed a shower (previously there had just been a basin). Unfortunately, the waste pipes of the building were too far away to install a WC (and there wasn't enough space either!). The cupboard to the right includes shelving and hides the electricity meter and fuse board. The upper cupboard on the left hides the hot-water heater. The lower left hand cupboard provides hanging space.

Before: We blocked and sound-insulated the far door on the inside as we no longer needed it. We maintained the appearance of the door on the outside to keep the original appearance in the communal corridor. All surfaces (floor, walls and ceiling) were renovated, as well as the skylights and the oval window as they were all in very bad condition. The remaining entry door was reinforced.

After: View of the finished studio (entrance door is off shot to the left). Built-in cupboards were installed in the far corner to hide the electricity meter and a cupboard and shelves for storage behind the sofa-bed. Furnishings are kept simple at the client's request.

Before: Here you can see two of the chambres without the separating wall. These two had a skylight each and the third one had an 'oeil de boeuf' ('bull's eye') oval window.

After: A small open kitchen and breakfast bar were installed with some storage.

After: As this was the servants' floor, there was a shared WC for the corridor and no shower or water in the chambres. The client obtained permission from the building co-owners to connect to the water supply and waste water pipes. We created a small but functional shower room with WC and basin. The client requested that the shower room include one of the two skylights.
